So there are many of you who loyally watch these shows and, like me, make continual comments to the television whether anyone else is in the room or not. Alternately, there are many of you who do not have the time to keep up with reality TV – there are too many shows, your tivos runneth over, you have kids and can’t remember what it’s like to watch anything beyond Dora the Explorer (you know who you are) – but you also want to be “in the know.” That’s fine. Let me help you understand.

American Idol Elimination: Sail Away

Another contestant left the competition tonight on American Idol, revealing this season's Top 6. There really weren't any surprises tonight (though Ryan had promised surprises), but here's how the elimination episode played out...

Results! The giant screen of safety flashed Jena's face first and Alex soon followed. Dexter, at that point, was sent to the stools of doom. After a commercial break we went back to the big screen, where we saw C.J.'s smile as he too made it to the Top 6. Sam was the last person announced safe...and Jessica joined Dexter in the bottom 2. Based on how awful the judges are to Jessica each week, I thought she would be heading home for sure as Dexter is just more lovable. I was wrong though. Dexter had the lowest number of votes and he was sent packing tonight. As he sang "Lucky Man" I was reminded of how much I still want to give him a great big hug. I'll miss Dexter for sure.

Next week we will see the Top 6 duke it out as we are starting to inch closer to the finale. Jessica is going to need to wow some folks next week because we clearly can't count on Sam and C.J. to hang out in the bottom 2 anymore. Will she be able to make it happen? Will Alex be able to put himself in "front-runner" status with Caleb and Jena? We'll find out next week when the contestants perform again. Til then!
