So there are many of you who loyally watch these shows and, like me, make continual comments to the television whether anyone else is in the room or not. Alternately, there are many of you who do not have the time to keep up with reality TV – there are too many shows, your tivos runneth over, you have kids and can’t remember what it’s like to watch anything beyond Dora the Explorer (you know who you are) – but you also want to be “in the know.” That’s fine. Let me help you understand.

The Voice: Team Adam and Team Cee-Lo Face Another Elimination

Tonight Team Adam and Team Cee-Lo say goodbye to another contestant as we make our way to the semifinals. We relive the excitement from last night before really kicking off the show with a performance from Florence + The Machine. The new single is called “No Light, No Light,” and it’s awesome. This is also one of those situations where slightly distracting backup dancers are welcome. Great start to the show.

Results! Team Adam is up first and after a nail-biting delay… we find out that Tony is safe! This leaves Mathai and Katrina to sing for their lives, and I’m already antsy for Katrina. I really want her to make it to the semifinals. Team Cee-Lo takes center stage now, and Jamar is safe! Juliet and Cheesa will sing for the save as well, and I’m pulling for Juliet.
-----------------------
Mathai performs first, and she takes on Carrie Underwood’s “Cowboy Casanova.” I appreciate that she is trying to do something different by choosing this song, but I do not enjoy this. There is a lot of pressure here, and I think it has gotten to her. She is strained throughout the song. Blake thinks Mathai is cute and loves that she is embracing her hillbilly side. Xtina notices the nerves during the performance but she is also glad Mathai got to show that side of her. Cee-Lo likes her aggression and charisma. What about the performance?
Katrina sings “Perfect,” by Pink. This is tricky given how awesome last year’s battle round duet between Vicki and Nicki was. Katrina is nervous as well, but her vocals hold up far better than Mathai’s. Pretty, pretty please, Adam. SAVE HER. Blake calls Katrina the best singer on Adam’s team, and Xtina agrees and takes it a step further saying she is the most excited to hear original material from Katrina.

Back from commercial and it is decision time for Adam. But first we have to find out who the other judges would save. Blake and Xtina would choose Katrina, and and Cee-Lo would choose Mathai. That was a perfect time filler. Adam, seriously, do the right thing. He rambles, and rambles, and the pit in my stomach grows bigger. Is there a drum roll? Is it over yet? Can I open my eyes? Adam saves Katrina! I’m already spent, and we’re only half way there.
-------------------------------

Cheesa sings “Already Gone,” by Kelly Clarkson (who turns 30 today – Happy Birthday!). Oh. Back to Cheesa. This is entirely too low for me…kind of my problem with her song from last night as well. I’m not sure she ever really found the pitch, and I hate calling singers pitchy. Cheesa is talented for sure, but I’m rooting for Juliet here. Blake thinks she may have been flat for part of it, but other parts were powerful. Xtina agrees (Wow. She’s really playing nice with the other coaches tonight).
Juliet sings “Torn,” by Natalie Imbruglia. This is how you sing for your life. She is pushing herself but not in a desperate way – more of an “I’m a performer, damn it” sort of way. Well done.  Blake regrets not hitting his button for Juliet during the blind auditions. Xtina isn’t as much of a fan of Juliet’s softer voice. She would rather have more performances like “Roxanne” from a few weeks back.

It’s up to Cee-Lo now. I think this one is a no brainer, but stranger things have happened. Blake and Xtina would save Juliet…and we’re out of time. Let’s go Cee-Lo! He asks both of them to smile and then talks about how much he loves them both and how wonderful they are…did I mention we are out of time? Cee-Lo saves Juliet, and tonight went exactly as I had hoped.
------------------------------

Next week the remaining 8 contestants will compete in the semifinals, and the coaches will no longer have the instant elimination option or the save. Until then!
