So there are many of you who loyally watch these shows and, like me, make continual comments to the television whether anyone else is in the room or not. Alternately, there are many of you who do not have the time to keep up with reality TV – there are too many shows, your tivos runneth over, you have kids and can’t remember what it’s like to watch anything beyond Dora the Explorer (you know who you are) – but you also want to be “in the know.” That’s fine. Let me help you understand.

That Was Too Close...

We begin the results show with some big Aerosmith breaking news – they will be going on tour, and Steven threatens to dress up as a lion tamer and whip the front row into submission. This is the Steven Tyler I love.

Additionally, it seems several of the Idols’ “idols” are on Twitter and gave rave reviews, and Eric Benet showed up to give DeAndre a man hug. Is this a consolation prize because he’s going home? Those who did not receive Twitter compliments or a personal visit or just out of luck. Onto the Ford music video and lots of head banging.

Results! Elise, Phillip and Hollie are up first. Hollie is in the bottom 3, and I am immediately bummed. Phillip and Elise, however are safe. Time for a break.

Ladies and gentlemen, Nicki Minaj. Lord I hope this performance in no way relates to her Grammy performance (Google it, but have a crucifix handy). She’s singing, meaning lip synching, “Starship.” What you see's not what you get, kids. I'll admit that this is a catchy song, but Nicki has some close calls in that top she’s wearing. She’s gutsy too – declaring she wants to be a guest judge and asking J.Lo to move over a little. Thank goodness J.Lo waves a finger at her and tells her there’s not enough room for the two of them. Watch yourself, Nicki…she’s from the block.

Results! Colton, Joshua and Heejun take the stage. Colton and Joshua are safe, but Heejun grabs a seat next to Hollie. More commercials.

Scotty McCreey is on stage now singing “Water Tower Town” (live I might add). This song is so much better than “I Love You This Big,” and his showmanship has come a long way. Scotty’s album has gone platinum, so good for him. I still don’t deny that I wanted Lauren Alaina to win last year though. We could be homies.

Results! DeAndre, Skylar and Jessica are the last to learn their fates. Jessica and DeAndre (!) are safe, and Skylar joins the bottom 3. Seriously, this can only go one way for me with no consequences to the neighbors who share my living room wall.

Back from commercial annnnd Skylar is safe, so it’s down to Hollie and Heejun. Pleasedon’tletitbeHollie, pleasedon’tletitbeHollie. Whew! Hollie is safe, and Heejun sings for his life. I can’t see the judges using their save given how Heejun had been accused of not taking the competition seriously. J.Lo is crying though, and I think for a moment he might have a chance, but Steven delivers the “no.”

So we now have the elite eight – Phillip, Colton, Hollie, Skylar, Jessica, Joshua, Elise and DeAndre. Until next week!
